I guess I should back up a bit before we go any further.

I used to think people who wrote blogs were self-important, more worried about listening to themselves talk (or reading their own words rather) with a sad attempt at humor than actually contributing to the world. Then I read Julie Powell’s "Julie & Julia" about a woman’s yearlong journey through Julia Child’s famous cookbook, "Mastering the Art of French Cooking."

I don’t think Julie Powell is self-important. Insane for taking on the daunting challenge? Maybe. Prolific in her writing style (minus the use of the f word)? Definitely.

Not only did Julie have an amazing blog and great fans. Her book contributed to society. At least it helped me. It totally took me out of a funk and encouraged my other newfound passion – food.

It was her book that inspired me to take a journey of my own and document it. David was amazing to allow me to write about my lessons along with the physical and emotional changes that came with it.

Still, I felt like there needed to be some kind of goal for the blog. David suggested taking part in the Winter Showcase he hoped to have his students participate in this December. Ummmm…have I mentioned I’m kind of a klutz? Or that I have a terrible fear of falling in front of a crowd?

This wasn’t going to be easy, but I think Julie would appreciate the challenge. Instantly, I got excited and nervous. The next six months would be a lot of hard work to get ready to perform in front of anyone outside of the safety of the studio. But, I knew it would be worth it.

And if I take a dive on stage during the showcase, I will chalk it up to being my audition for the next season of ABC’s Wipeout. No big balls or sweeper arms needed.
