For the past two years, the Garner High football team maintained a 29-2 record and was in the grasp of the state championship both years. The success of the team has been heavily dependent on the class of 2013.

On Wednesday, February 6, seniors Anthony Galavotti and Vince Jefferies, two of Garner’s key players, signed their letters of intent to Western Carolina University and Shaw University, respectively.

Vince Jefferies, Garner’s quarterback for two years, committed to Shaw. Although he was looking at other schools, Shaw was his only official offer. “I’m very content with the school and I’m happy that it is so close to home,” he commented. While studying at Shaw, he plans to major in Criminal Justice.

Anthony Galavotti, an offensive linesman for two years, expressed his excitement towards joining Western Carolina’s growing football team. “I visited the school during football season and I immediately saw myself going to school there. I love the location,” he explained. While at Western Carolina, he will pursue a major in Environmental Engineering.

Both players are excited to start their college career and pursue playing their favorite sport in a new town.
