Wake Christian cheer squad takes first in regional competition

The first place award at the regional competition ensures Wake Christian’s squad an automatic bid to CCA’s National Competition in March.

Wake Christian Academy’s Competition Cheer Squad traveled to Richmond, Va., on Dec. 3 to participate in the CCA (Christian Cheerleaders of America) Virginia Regional Competition. WCA competed in the Large Varsity Music Division. The squad was awarded first place in their division and won the Grand Champion award in Large Varsity. This first place award ensures the squad an automatic bid to CCA’s National Competition in March. Congratulations, ladies!

The routine lasted two and a half minutes and consisted of cheering, stunting and tumbling. The squad’s next competition is on Feb. 4, in Lynchburg, Va., at the Blue Ridge Classic.

Squad members are Haley Bennett, Laura Bourn, Ashley Carroll, Candace Carter, Emily Frechette, Meredith Hamilton, Sarah King, Joseé Mitchell, Madison Pearce, Ashlyn Pierce, Victoria Renfroe, Jessica Russell, Kayla Smith and Katie Spain. They are coached by Gayle Barger.
