Trojan Hall of Fame Banquet and Golf Tournament
The 2012 Trojan Hall of Fame banquet and golf tournament honoring the second induction class is May 3-4. The golf tournament is Friday, May 4 at River Ridge Golf Course. Registration will be at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. The cost is $70 per person. It includes BBQ dinner, golf, cash prizes (first and second gross and net), hole in one prizes and door prizes. Sponsorships are welcomed! All proceeds support student-athletes at GMHS. The Garner Trojan Club is a 501(c)3 non-profit for tax deductible contributions. The 2012 Hall of Fame induction banquet will be Thursday, May 3 at Anfesa’s Ballroom. The second HOF class consists of Tim Stevens (‘70), Eric Williams (‘78), Laurie Bailey (‘79), Coach Sherrill Johnson (posthumously) and long-time volunteer Billy Stuart. Annual Crawfish, Shrimp & BBQ
The American Legion Post 116 of Fuquay-Varina is hosting it’s Second Annual Crawfish, Shrimp & BBQ Dinner on Saturday, May 5 from 3 to 7 p.m. at 6400 Johnson Pond Road in Fuquay-Varina. Each plate is $10 where you can pick two of the crawfish or shrimp or BBQ. All plates include boiled potatoes, corn and jalapeno cornbread. GMHS Senior vs. Faculty Basketball Game
The GMHS seniors will face off with the faculty on May 16 in the school gymnasium. Everyone is invited to come out and watch what is expected to be a great game since Mr. Donald Williams and Principal Drew Cook will be playing against the seniors. The admission cost is $3 per person and it will be the senior class fundraiser. There will be a halftime half-court shot contest for the crowd and student slam dunk contest.
Kids’ Consignment Sale
Garner United Methodist Church’s Kids’ Consignment Sale will take place Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19, with half price day on Saturday, May 19 in the church’s Christian Life Center. Hours are Friday 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Consignment sales give families the opportunity to buy and sell quality items at bargain prices. Items available include: children’s excellent condition used clothing (infant through pre-teen sizes), furniture and bedding, infant gear, books, videos, maternity items, athletic equipment and toys.
We are currently registering consignors and volunteers to participate in the sale. Consignors receive two-thirds of the profit from their merchandise and the church will donate the remaining one-third of the profit to local area missions. Summer Rowing Camps
Interested in rowing? Try the Triangle Rowing Club’s Summer Rowing Academy. These camps are designed for both novice (brand new) and experienced rowers. There will be three sessions: #1. Country Garden Montessori
Country Garden Montessori currently has one Children’s House classroom (ages 3-6), with plans to expand (ages 6-9). It provides a very nurturing and warm educational environment. The student to teacher ratio is low, which allows for more individual attention for each child. The school was started three and a half years ago by Claudia Vickers, who has been a Montessori teacher for 18 years. Before starting her own school, she taught at private Montessori schools as well as Sterling Montessori and Casa Esperanza Montessori Charter School. She has two bachelor degrees (one in early childhood education – Birth through Kindergarten Education) as well as graduate level work. She also has a N.C. teaching license. Calling Service Minded People
The Garner Lions Club is expanding! Our club is looking for individuals who are interested in getting involved with their community and helping people in need. The Garner Lions club has helped over 20 individuals in the local area with assistance in getting an eye exam and getting glasses over the last year. We had a BBQ chicken fundraiser in late winter to raise funds to help local citizens in need. Our main goal is to assist those who are visually impaired. We help provide help for Camp Dogwood, a camp specialized for those who are visually impaired. Troop 397 meets every Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Mary Mother of Church in Garner (1008 Vandora Springs Road). The Troop is looking for new members, but those interested must be in at least sixth grade. The Troop does a number of activities including camping, hiking and community service projects.
New Life Wesleyan Church is offering Bible Buddies, a special needs class, for ages K-5th. Local Military Families Connect, the Homeland Heroes Military Family Program, meets the second Monday and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Childcare and snacks are provided.
