On July 20, the Eagle Ridge Soaring Eagles celebrated the 2012 season with an Olympic-themed party and presented awards to the following swimmers.
Most Valuable Swimmer, based on points won for the team during the season, 6&U Boys – Burke Tribble, 6&U Girls – Lindsay Day, 7-8 Boys – Max Rucker, 7-8 Girls – Erin Sarkus, 9-10 Boys – Alex Alfaro, 9-10 Girls – Jaelin Sarkus, 11-12 Boys – Gerard Chamra, 11-12 Girls – Peyton Leischner, 13-14 Boys – Zack Leischner, 13-14 Girls – Rhiannon Rucker, 15-18 Boys – Matt Smothers and 15-18 Girls – Mila Korobkina.
For each stroke, one girl and one boy were awarded Most Improved medals: freestyle – Tylor Whitley and Zack Eddinger; backstroke – Addilyn Francis and Alexi Beauchesne; breaststroke – Isabella Welby and Aiden Kovacs; and butterfly – Camilla Araujo and Luke Cherry.
Kira Lindelof and Will Almeida also were recognized for outstanding sportsmanship. On a special note, Erin Sarkus and Zack Leischner were recognized for winning all of their races during the course of the season.
The Eagles are sad to say goodbye to third-year coach Megan Nelson. She has been an inspiration for the Eagle Ridge swimmers over the last three years. Many of the young swimmers that have taken beginning swimming lessons with Nelson and have gone on to join the team.
Nelson plans to complete her student teaching this year, graduate in the spring and then look for a job teaching first or second grade.
The Eagles also would like to express their sincere appreciation to assistant coaches Brandon Kromel and Darcy Dupree.
