Young readers learned to juggle Wednesday, June 17 during the Carnival of Fun while others had a great time playing Bingo with library staff members. Many children enjoyed books to kick off a summer of reading. Once children have read 15 hours they may bring in their completed reading log and receive their prize pack. This program is open to children 0-11. There are also reading programs available for adults and teens this summer. Adults can pick up one of six different cards with games on one side and staff suggestions on the other—all summer long! Collect them all as different lists come out every two weeks.
On Wednesday, June 17 young library users participated in Southeast’s Get Creative @ Your Library Summer Reading Kick-Off. Along with decorating their summer reading bags participants could play BINGO, create sidewalk chalk creations, look at the library’s pop-up books, and get temporary tattoos. Librarians were also silk-screening book bags and t-shirts with this year’s summer reading logo.
In the afternoon older children participated in Southeast’s “Carnival of Fun” where they learned to juggle scarves, perform string tricks, and learn the cup and ball trick.
If your child missed the Summer Reading Kick-off, they may still participate in the Summer Reading Club. Summer Reading Kits are available in the Youth Services department throughout the summer.
