Rachel Sauls of Four Oaks participated in the Pre Teen NC Academic and Enrichment Scholarship Program July 24 – 26 in Durham. Pre Teen is a by invitation only program for girls ages 7 – 12. The participants are judged on their Academic Performance and Awards, Volunteerism, Personal Development, On Stage Presence, General Knowledge Test, and a 6 minute private interview with three judges. Rachel placed in the top 10 out of 51 girls and placed 1st runner up overall. Miss Sauls wrote and performed a speech titled “The Price we Must Pay for Freedom” that won her the Speech competition. She also won the Overall Private Interview award with the highest interview score out of 145 participants and received $650 in educational savings bonds. Rachel is the daughter of Boyd and Sheryl Sauls, the Granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Dennis Lee of Four Oaks and Billy Sauls, Lynda Beckwith and Tom Slaughter of Raleigh. She is the Great Granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Lee of Four Oaks. Miss Sauls would like to thank her sponsors for making this possible.
