Cub Scouts and individual families gathered at Lake Benson Park at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning to pick up gloves, trash bags, t-shirts and bright orange vests. As they headed out, volunteers offered to be responsible for different roads around town.
Town Council candidate Amaka Flynn and her family worked along Timber Drive. Flynn said it is a family community service project she, her husband and their two children take part in twice a year.
“It’s really about building values,” she said.
The family started the project two years ago in hopes that the Flynn children would learn to pick up at home and to be better citizens. It has stuck because the family enjoys getting out together and making Garner more beautiful.
“This is an easy thing that families can really do,” Flynn said. “It’s really a win-win situation.”
