Captain Johnston Blakeley Chapter USD 1812 hosts State Council Meeting

The State Council Meeting was hosted by the Captain Johnston Blakeley Chapter, USD 1812, Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009. A total of 24 were in attendance from across the state. This included 14 members and one guest from the Captain Johnston Blakeley Chapter of Garner, five from the Cherokee Chapter, three from the Commissioner Charles Gause Chapter, one from the Snapdragon Chapter and none from the Private Vincent Key Chapter. The Luncheon was held at the University Club on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. The speaker was Mr. James Holloway, who is Assistant North Carolina Attorney General and he spoke on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mrs. Charlotte R. Carrere, Chapter and State President, of Garner, Mrs. Laura C. Edwards, Chapter and State Registrar of Garner, Mrs.LynneWhite Belvin,Chapter and State Historian and her husband, Tom, Official Photographer of Garner attended. Mrs. Betty Aiken of Benson, Chapter Treasurer was Credentials Chairman. Mrs. Nancy Strickland of Tabor City, Chapter and State Chaplain carried out the Memorial service remembering five Daughters who have passed away this year across the State Mrs. Elaine Baldasare, State Treasurer of Chapel Hill gave her report. Sara Easom-Hughes of Winter Park, Florida, State Printed Supplies Chairman attended along with Ann Myhre of Garner, Ann Locke of Raleigh, Elsie Bailey of Raleigh and Glinda Saxon of Willow Springs.

Miss Bethany Edwards of Garner, a Junior Member from the Captain Johnston Blake Chapter served as Personal Page to the State President.

Awards of Trophies and Certificates were awarded for outstanding work completed in 1812 Projects this year. Captain Johnston Blakeley Chapter of Garner was awarded 10 of the 14 trophies available and 24 of the 29 certificates available. Trophies and certificates were presented for: Best Program for year, most New Members, most FAADS (Members from 18 and 36) most Junior Members, most Supplemental, Best Chapter Newsletter, Best Scrapbook, most material submitted to State Scrapbook, most Records submitted to National 1812 Library, most Books submitted to National 1812 Library, Veteran's Rehabilitation- most money donated, most coupons sent to Military Families, Most stamps donated to paralyzed Veterans and most comfort items donated. American Merchant Marine Library most reading material donated, and most grave marking ceremonies. Most National Membership Certificates ordered, most inches of news printed in local newspapers, most pamphlets on the Correct Use of Flag distributed, Lineage and Historical Records -most records submitted, most printed supplies ordered, most JROTC and ROTC medals presented and most money donated to Fort McHenry (where the Star Spangled Banner was written) and the Star Spangled Flag House and Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. They tied for first place and received certificates for the most Wreath Laying Ceremonies and most new members descended from one ancestor.

Members voted to adopt and furnish a room at the National USD 1812 Headquarters in Washington DC to be known as the North Carolina Room.
