Rozlyn Sorrell will present her students Oct. 24 during the Vocal Performance Showcase at the Garner Historic Auditorium at 8 p.m.

This may be the best talent Sorrell has seen in the three years that the showcase has taken place. There is something for everyone and it’s only the price of taking the family to a movie.

The students will sing in 15-minute sets and Sorrell will perform during the second half of the concert, which she said is great for Garner residents who can’t get out to one of her 13 concerts with the North Carolina symphony.

“This one is right in their backyard, within the community,” she said.

Sorrell is first and foremost an educator. She has a Masters degree in special education and taught in a school system before becoming a performer.

“As an educator, I’m still teaching,” she said. “I’m teaching something near and dear to my heart.”

Currently, Sorrell has 20 students. She has an average of 18 students at any given time and requires a minimum of three months of study with her to help students really develop their talent.

Sorrell said her busy work schedule along with her own performances made preparing for the showcase difficult this year. But, she said, it would be well worth it in the end.

“It’s very rewarding to see it all come together,” she said.

Early tickets are available for the Vocal Performance Showcase at www.vocalperformace.com or www.rozlynsorrell.com. Tickets cost $10 and VIP tickets cost $20.
