Where is Garner Headed? In an effort to remain true to my principles I need to disclose that, I am a candidate for the Town Council. With that being said I would like to move more to my point.
I get up each morning and prepare for my day as usual and as I finish-up my general tasks of the morning; getting my son up and ready for school, making sure my daughter is off to school, I am ready for work and then turning over the reins of responsibility to my wife before walking out to campaign and then head to work, I start to think about the Town and my Neighbors.
I begin to drink in the events of the previous day and the events of the world as we all have slept. As I look back on the events of my life, my memories, my parents and my grandparents I take stock and ask myself… Are we better off today they we were five years ago; 10 years ago; 25 years ago? Do we know our neighbors? Do we know the names of the clerks in the stores where we shop? Do we know the name of the two young boys standing on the corner? And, do we know why they are on the corner at 1 a.m.?
Is our country more or less secure? Are we paying more of our money in taxes or less? Are our voices heard at the local, state or federal level when we speak out in discontent?
I pray. I wonder some mornings if the candidates that I am running against pray. I pray for them… I wonder if they pray for me.
I have a special needs six-year-old and I wrote to all nine members of the School Board over 10 days ago about a serious issue at his school… I received 1 response in 36 minutes from Ron Margiotta… and no one else cared enough about my child to even answer. This may be why we are changing School Board Members. Schools are just one of many issues that faces our Town. We, as citizens, need to pay close attention to the election this coming Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The Garner Town Council could easily remain the same as it has been, high spending and not really ‘open’ to ‘questions.’ Or, the Council could change greatly depending on who is elected. And, CHANGE is not always good. I am not asking you to vote for me… but I am asking that you consider each candidate, study their views and their opinion of government… and be sure to VOTE.
Your vote will help determine where Garner is headed. Thank You and God Bless You.
Arnie Osborn
Candidate for Garner Town Council
