The National Weather Service is predicting 10 inches of snow or more throughout Wake County, with the possibility of measurable ice accumulation.
This proclamation declares Garner to be in a state of emergency, pursuant to North Carolina General Statute 14-288.12. In order to more effectively protect the lives and property of the people within the Town of Garner, the proclamation imposed a restriction within the Garner Code of Ordinances (Sec. 11-37 & 11-38). This restriction will prohibit access, or attempts to obtain access, to any area designated as restricted by the Chief of Police or his subordinates within the Town Limits. This may include restricted access to any area, street, highway or location within this municipality necessary to prevent further aggravation of the emergency, to include the closing of icy streets and roadways that are impassable. Any person violating any prohibition or restriction imposed by this proclamation shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable as provided in Section 1-8 of the Code of Ordinances.
The Town of Garner is on stand-by in preparation for the anticipated winter weather and the Wake County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been activated. Therefore, all equipment and personnel are prepared to respond, and if needed, shelters will be opened at Middle Creek, Garner, Knightdale and Southeast Raleigh High Schools.
