Garner Deadlines Thursday by 12 p.m. (the week prior to publication date) is the deadline for submission of typed, faxed and handwritten items to be submitted for the following week's paper. They can be faxed to 552-7564. The deadline for e-mailed submissions is Friday by 5 p.m. Send emails to kgriffith@raleighsouthonline.com. Submissions should be no longer than 100 words.

Grief Support Group Grief Support Group will be offered eight consecutive Tuesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. beginning Feb. 2. The group will provide an opportunity for education and support for all who have experienced a loss. Lifelong Learning Classes The Wake County Public School System will offer upcoming classes through its Lifelong Learning with Community Schools Program. The upcoming classes are: “Navigating IEP Season” Mondays starting Feb. 1 and going through May 3 from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. The cost is $150. “World Percussions” Tuesdays starting Feb. 2 and going through Mar. 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $115.

AVID Bingo Fundraiser The McGee's Middle School AVID students (Advancement Via Individual Determination) are holding a Bingo fundraiser on Friday, Mar. 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the school's cafeteria. The AVID program is an academic program that supports students in fulfilling their college dreams. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door. Advance ticket purchasers will receive six BINGO cards to play throughout the evening. Tickets purchased at door will come with four BINGO cards. Additional BINGO cards may be purchased for $1. A 50/50 raffle will also be part of the fundraiser. Raffle tickets are $2 each. Baked goods and snacks will be available for purchase. Prizes! Please join us for a fun Friday event and help us raise money for our program!

Ole Fashion Supper Satisfy your appetite and refresh your spirit at Mt. Zion’s Annual Ole Fashion Supper on Saturday, Mar. 6 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Tickets are just $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 4 to 12, ages three and under are free. This is an evening of culinary delights for the entire family. You can feast in our fellowship hall or fix your plate and take it out. Enjoy mouth-watering country cooking including fried chicken, barbecue, ham, chicken and pastry, hot dogs, fat back, streak-o-lean and even chitterlings. Feast on a variety of tasty vegetables including collards, potatoes and green beans. And, delight in homemade hushpuppies and buttered biscuits so light and flaky you’ll be begging for the recipe. Top it all off will be the legendary Mt. Zion dessert table, a delectable display of sweet cakes, melt-in-your mouth pies, and that Southern staple - - banana pudding. It’s Johnston County cooking at its very best! The profits from this fundraiser go to our building fund. Beauty and the Beast Please join Middle Creek High School's Fine Arts Department for the 2010 Spring Musical: Disney's Beauty and The Beast! Based on the Academy-Award winning animated feature, this "tale as old as time" offers a great opportunity to bring friends and family together to enjoy theatre at its best. The musical will be performed Mar. 11 to 13 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Mar. 14 at 2 p.m. (Children, dress as your favorite Disney character!) at Middle Creek High School (123 Middle Creek Park Avenue, Apex, NC 27539). 2010 Garner Relay for Life Fundraisers All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life! There will be a spaghetti dinner on Friday, Mar. 12 at Panther Branch Community Center, near the intersection of Ten-Ten Road and Benson Road (Hwy. 50) from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available ahead of time at a discount. Plates will include spaghetti, garlic bread and a dessert. People will have a choice to add meatballs and Parmesan cheese. There will also be a car wash Saturday, Apr. 10 at the Southern Trace Pool, 1137 Southern Trace Trail from 8 a.m. to noon. This will coincide with the Southern Trace Spring Community Yard Sale. Basket Bingo will be held Friday, Apr. 23 at Garner Relay for Life at Lake Benson Park in Garner at 7:30 p.m. in the survivor’s tent. Each card to play bingo will be $10 and participant can play as many games as we have baskets.

2010 Missions Conference Join us at Mt. Herman Christian Church, 8925 White Oak Road in Garner, N.C. for our 2010 Missions Conference with special visiting missionary guests. Services will be held Friday, Mar. 12 at 7 p.m. There will be a Missions Banquet on Saturday, Mar. 13 at 6 p.m. Sunday morning, Sunday School will begin at 9:30 a.m. and there will be a 10:45 a.m. Worship service and Sunday evening service at 6:30 p.m. Call 919-773-6155.

Equestrian Clinic Local riding instructor Allison Trill will be leading an Equestrian Advice clinic on Mar. 13. Trill encourages any riders looking for riding help and answers to come out - people who want to understand the "whys" of riding and bond with and learn how to communicate with their horse. Equestrian Advice is focused on providing high-quality training, advice, and customer satisfaction. Your relationship with your horse, understanding of your horse, and success is our main priority. The clinic will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cedar Grove Farm on Cleveland Road in Garner. The cost is $35 a ride. Each ride is individual and receives 100 percent attention from Trill. Heart of Carolina Romance Writers' Meeting The Heart of Carolina Romance Writers' Meeting will take place Saturday, Mar. 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Cameron Village Library in Raleigh. Clayton Teen Fest 2010 The Clayton Teen Fest 2010 will be held Saturday, Mar. 20 at 4 p.m. at the Clayton Civitan Football Field. The Christian youth conference and festival for teens is the senior project of Jordan Wing. There will be music, bands, speakers, entertainment, dramas, testimonies, games and a lot of rides.

Spring Fashion Runway event Looking for an afternoon full of Fun and Fashion? A Spring Fashion Runway event will be held Mar. 20 at 2 p.m. The event is hosted by The Shoppes on Main (at 212 S. Main Street in Fuquay-Varina). The fashion show will feature the new Spring and Summer children’s lines from Sweet Treat Boutique, a local children’s clothing designer. The preteen and teen designs will also make their debut at this event. Second Annual Spring Festival Hope Church is holding its Second Annual Spring Festival Saturday, Mar. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Clayton Middle School on Guy Road in Clayton. There will be something for everyone including games, rides, food and crafts vendors. They are also conducting a canned and boxed food drive to benefit Clayton Area Ministries. Chairs of Hope Project The Vandora Springs Art Club and staff members are currently beginning to work on their annual Chairs of Hope Project. Over 20 wooden chairs will be transformed into one of a kind pieces of art to benefit the Garner-area Relay For Life and The American Cancer Society. This year's theme is Broadway Shows/songs.
