Isaac Hunter's Tavern Society recognized for outstanding work at state convention
George Burnham Davis, 88, of Kill Devil Hills, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, in his residence. Mr. Davis was born in Darlington, S.C. and was retired from the State of North Carolina Department of Transportation in Accounts Payable.
He was a member of Garner United Methodist Church, where he was an active member of the Men's Bible Class and served as a teacher and song leader. Mr. Davis served his community in many volunteer services and was a former Volunteer of the Year for the State of North Carolina. He also was an avid craftsman.
Mr. Davis was the son of the late Robert Wright and Elizabeth Smith Davis and the husband of the late Sara Moore Davis.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy D. Eadie and husband Ed of Elizabeth City and Harriett D. Bryant and husband Mitchell of Monroe, N.C.; one son, T. Olin Davis and wife Dotsy of Manteo, N.C.; two sisters, Roberta Mixson of Snellville, Ga. and Eloween Ward of Aiken, S.C.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A service of remembrance was held at Garner United Methodist Church, Sunday, Apr. 11, 2010, at 3 p.m. by Rev. Bob Redmond. Memorials may be made to Garner United Methodist Church Men’s Bible Class Scholarship Fund, 201 Methodist Drive, Garner, NC 27529.
