Ione Godwin Gainey, 96, daughter of the late William Henry Godwin and Malissa O’Neal Godwin, was born on August 1, 1913 and peacefully went to her eternal home on April 15, 2010 at the home of her daughter, Linda Poole. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Garner. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel in Garner. Burial followed at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.

Ione leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Linda Poole; her son, Tommy Gainey and wife, Lois; grandchildren, Will Gainey, Tyler Poole and wife, Rebecca, Dawn Gainey, Matthew Poole and wife, Toni, Ashley Reffit and husband, Seth; great-grandchildren, Cory Gainey, Jack Gainey, Ty Poole, Cameron Poole, Carter Poole and Olivia Reffit and also, her special friend, James Davis. Preceding her in death were her husband, Jack Gainey and brothers, Milford, Luke and Henry Godwin. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 16 at the funeral home. Ione never met a stranger and will be remembered for her friendly, happy nature. She was dedicated to her family and her legacy will live forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Heartland Hospice and Home Health Care for the special care they gave our loved one.
