Amber Hughes, two-year-old member of Isaac Hunter's Tavern Society of Garner, presented a wreath at the Halifax Resolves, Sons of the American Revolution, ceremony at Halifax, N.C.
Halifax was the first to declare independence resolving the exclusive right of forming a Constitution and laws for this Colony. Her mother, Sara Easom-Hughes, a member of Rand's Mill Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution in Garner, presented the wreath with her. Amber's great grandfather, Tom Belvin, is the Senior Society President and is also a member of Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of the Revolution.
The event was sponsored by the Halifax Resolves Chapter, N.C Society, Sons of the American Revolution. Wreaths were laid by the Sons of the American Revolution, the Ladie's Auxiliary NCSSAR, Daughters of the American Revolution, U.S. Daughter's of 1812, AMVETS, Roanoke valley Veteran's Center and American Legion Post 98.
Dr. William S. Price, Kenan Professor of History, Emeritus at Meredith College, was the keynote speaker.
The groups also presented another wreath for the Captain Johnston Blakeley Chapter, U.S. Daughters of 1812. Sara Easom-Hughes is an adult member and Amber is a Junior Member. Her sister, Lillie, age eight months is also a member and attended.
