The VFW Post 10225 will hold a flag raising ceremony at Mountlawn Memorial Park on Wilmington Street in Raleigh at 11 a.m. May 31. During the ceremony, the Post members will honor military that have sacrificed their lives for their country and will hand out flags. The event will take place at the Veterans Memorial site.

American Legion Post 232 will host a Memorial Day ceremony at Lake Benson Park at 1:30 p.m. May 31. At the site of the future Garner Veterans Memorial, the colors will be raised at the newly installed flagpole. Arlie Honeycutt will sing the National Anthem. After the Pledge of Allegiance is recited, there will be an invocation by the Post Chaplain. All 67 military members from Garner that have fallen during wartime, from the Civil War to present day, will be read. A wreath will be placed at the memorial site and Mayor Ronnie Williams will give the keynote speech. A bugler will play taps to conclude the service. American Legion Post 232 Commander Terry Chatfield said the 30 to 45-minute ceremony will be an annual event
