The Town Council recognized the May Properties of the Month winners at the May 18 meeting. Hayes Chapel Christian Church celebrated 150 years in 2009. This year, they were honored as a Commercial Property of the Month.

Neighborhood Improvement Manger Reginald Buie said Garner is on a mission to make the town ascetically pleasing and it is great to have partners like Hayes Chapel to make that happen. The Residential Property of the Month went to two property owners.

Brandon and Trish Foster, of Johnson Street, and Clementine Harris, of November Street, were recognized for their beautiful yards.

The Fosters have been working on their yard for seven years to get it to this point. “It’s the secret to a happy marriage,” Trish joked at the meeting.

She and her husband work a lot in the front yard and will soon start behind their home. Harris was overjoyed to be recognized for doing something she loves.

“It’s just a joy for me,” she said. “I thank God for giving me the strength to play around in the yard.” Buie created the Property Improvement Program to preserve and enhance the value of residential and commercial properties in Garner. Monthly, Town staff choses a winner for both residential and business/commercial property categories using a point system and pre-determined criteria.
