Kurt Busch made car owner Roger Penske’s day and night all the “more filling” as he survived the All-Star field to win the 2010 NASCAR/Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

After his team won the pole earlier in the day for the Indy 500, Roger Penske jetted to Charlotte to be part of a $1 million win by Sprint Cup driver Kurt Busch in the #2 Miller Lite Dodge.

After rain washed out Showdown and All-Star qualifying on Friday, it was anyone’s guess who would have the best “set-up” for the All-Star race Saturday night. Martin Truex, Jr. won the Showdown race and Greg Biffle took second, to qualify them both for a shot at the million dollar prize in the All-Star race.

Carl Edwards was the fan favorite vote-in driver to complete the field.

Always a unique and unpredictable race with no points awarded the drivers, the race is run in four segments of 50/20/20/10 laps for a total of 100.

Prior to the start of the final 10 lap segment, all cars must pit for four tires.

How the drivers come off pit road determines their position for the final 10 lap “shoot out” to the finish for the $1 million prize.

As the final segment began, Kurt Busch came from fifth place to the lead after JGR teammates Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch got tangled with only seven laps to go.

On lap 98 of 100, Kyle Busch bounced off the wall at the end of the tri-oval, clipped Kasey Kahne and brought out the fifth caution.

On the restart, Busch took the green flag with Jimmie Johnson beside him.

Busch pulled away again, but before the cars got back to the finish line, Johnson spun out across the infield grass to bring out yet another yellow caution. Johnson finished 13th after leading 56 of the 100 lap race. On the next restart, Busch put the race away. “Way to go boys,” Busch screamed over his radio after taking the checkered flag. “A million cool ones—- whoo !”

But Kurt’s brother, Kyle, was not quite as happy. Denny Hamlin used defensive driving to try and hold on to his lead as the race neared conclusion.

This ultimately resulted in Kyle Busch wrecking and he was heard over his radio saying he was so angry at Hamlin that he better keep him away.

Both drivers were in a post-race meeting with car owner Joe Gibbs, trying to iron out their differences.

“I know nothing,” Logano laughed. “I am not going near them. All I know is that they are cool with me.”

Tony Stewart, last year’s All-Star race winner, finished fifth. See more images from All-Star race weekend at www.NorthBeachPhotos.lifepics.com.
