Through a partnership with Wake County Child Nutrition Services’ Summer Food Program, the camp will be able to offer a free nutritional lunch and afternoon snack to all campers for several weeks during the summer.
The Summer Food Program is free and provided to any camper that wishes to participate. Lunch will include a sandwich, fruit and milk each day. An afternoon snack will also be provided. The food program operates from June 21 through Aug. 13, which corresponds to week 2 - 9 of Camp Kaleidoscope. Campers were required to bring their own lunch and afternoon snack during week one (June 14-18) and will be required to during week 10 (Aug. 16-20).
Recreation Superintendent, Rob Smith stated, “In these challenging economic times, Camp Kaleidoscope provides parents a cost efficient way to ensure their children have a fun, safe summer and they will certainly create lifelong memories. With the addition of the Summer Food Program, the chore of packing a lunch each day has been eliminated and the overall camp value has been increased.”
Camp Kaleidoscope is a new summer day camp program based at Avery Street Recreation Center. Each week has a different theme and a new adventure. The camp will travel to local parks, including the new White Deer Park, to learn about the natural world. Campers will create craft masterpieces, play exciting games, meet new friends and create special summer memories. Campers will have the opportunity to swim every Friday at the City of Raleigh’s Chavis Community Center. This field trip and activity will be a great way to end each fun filled week at Camp Kaleidoscope.
Camp runs Monday through Friday, June 14 through August 20 from 7:30am to 6pm. Cost per week for each camper is only $75 for Town residents and $98 for non-residents. You can register online at www.GarnerNC.gov or in person at Garner Town Hall Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm, or at Avery Street Recreation Center, Monday through Thursday 2:30 to 8 p.m. and Friday 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
