On June 29 and 30 (weather delay) Eagle Ridge lost to Division 7 Medfield 227-287. Despite the loss, Eagle Ridge had many strong swims across the board. Jack Price was a 6&U double winner in backstroke and breaststroke. Triple winners were Zak Stewart in the 9-10 Boys Free, Back and Fly; Zack Leischner in the 11-12 Boys Free, Breast and Fly; Rhiannon Rucker in the 11-12 Girls Free, Back and Breast; and Mila Korobkina in the 13-14 Girls Free, Breast and Fly.

The loss didn’t stop the Eagles though.

At home July 6, the Eagle Ridge team claimed its first win of the season, beating the Crocodiles of Charleston Village by a score of 300-203. 6&U double winners were Chace Chaplin in Free and Breast, and Erin Sarkus in Free and Back. Triple winners were Zack Leischner in the 11-12 Boys Free, Breast and Fly; Mila Korobkina in the 13-14 Girls Free, Breast and Fly; and Mallory Horvath in the 15-18 Girls Free, Back and Fly.

In addition, a number of Eagle Ridge pool records were broken during the meet. In the individual races, Max Rucker set a new record for the 15-yard 6&U Boys Backstroke (0:15.00), and Chace Chaplin set a new record for the 15-yard 6&U Boys Breaststroke (0:15.56). Zack Leischner set new records for the 50-yard 11-12 Boys Free (0:26.82), Breast (0:38.00), and Fly (0:30.68), and Rhiannon Rucker set a new 50-yard 11-12 Girls Freestyle record (0:31.28).

In the relay races, the 7-8 Girls – Lauren Taylor Carillo, Anna Sparrow, Davin Sarkus, and Jaelin Sarkus – set a pool record in the Free Relay with a time of 1:27.31. New records were set for the 9-10 Boys Free Relay (1:07.13) by Scott Barbeau, Allen Alfaro, Gerard Chamra, and Zak Stewart, and for the Medley Relay (1:17.09) by Allen Alfaro, Payton Nugent, Zak Stewart, and Scott Barbeau. The 11-12 Girls – Hannah Alfaro, Kaitlyn Dowling, Alexis Kocurek, and Rhiannon Rucker – set a new Medley Relay record with a time of 2:11.24, and Bilva Sanaba, Bradley Yount, Matt Smothers, and Zack Leischner set a new 13-14 Boys Free Relay record with a time of 2:14.89.

“The team proved they have been working hard in practices, and they were ready to race these past two meets. There were some very tough races, and the Eagle Ridge swimmers stepped up on the blocks ready to race the person next to them and swim to their potential,” Coach Megan Nelson said. “The ER swimmers achieved almost all ‘best times’ at the July 6 meet. I would say that is pretty amazing for these athletes. I am looking forward to some fast racing as we finish up our last two meets.”

The Eagles will host Brookstone on July 13 and swim at Weather-stone on July 20.

The swimmers and parents are very grateful for all the hard work put in each week by coaches Megan Nelson, Brandon Kromel, Mallory Horvath and Courtney Weaver. Go Eagles!
