▪ When will downloadable eBooks be available? Downloadable eBooks will premiere on our Overdrive website at 10 a.m. on Aug. 2.

▪ What formats will you offer? Wake County will purchase eBooks in the ePub format. These titles can be read on most PC and Mac computers, and can be transferred to compatible eReaders, such as a Sony Reader or a Barnes and Noble Nook. Applications for Apple products and smart phones are currently in development.

▪ Can I download library eBooks to my Kindle? The Kindle is not compatible with the ePub format.

▪ What kinds of books will I be able to check out? Our initial collection of eBooks will include books from the New York Times Bestsellers list. Look for the newest and most popular titles, such as The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang, The Help, and Change Your Brain, Change Your Body.

▪ How long can I keep my downloaded eBook? You will have the option of choosing your own check out period of either 7 or 21 days.

▪ Can I download eBooks on the computers at the library?

This is an at-home service only. You can browse the Overdrive website and check out books from the library computers, but downloading can only take place on your home computer.

▪ How do I return my book?

If you finish your eBook before the check out period expires, you will have the option to return it early. Otherwise, you don’t have to do anything to return it!

At the end of your check out period, the book will automatically be returned to the library’s website for others to check out.

You don’t need to worry about late fees or lost books with this service!

If you have other questions, please email downloadhelp@wakegov.com.
