Tucker Dupree, a world-ranked Paralympic Swimmer from North Carolina, has been accepted to participate in the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Residency Program this fall.

Dupree, who won six Gold Medals at the Can-Am National Championships in San Antonio last spring, has been named to the United States team that will compete in the 2010 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships Aug. 15-21 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

The Netherlands meet Aug. 15-21 will be Dupree’s sixth international meet as a U.S. Paralympic Swimmer. He will report to the USOC Training Center following his return from the Netherlands.

Dupree, the only North Carolina swimmer to compete in the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, won six Gold medals in the annual Can/Am Long Course Championships in late March in San Antonio and qualified for the U.S. team that will compete in Long Course World Championships in The Netherlands.

Last December, Tucker won a Gold Medal, two Silver Medals and two Bronze Medals at the Short Course World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He's on track to win Gold at the 2012 Paralympics in London. He just missed winning Gold in Beijing in 2008.

“I am excited to have a chance to participate in the Olympic Training Center Residency Program,” Dupree said. “I’m convinced this opportunity will assure my spot on the podium (at the Paralympic Games in London) in 2012.”

Dave Denniston, Swimming Resident Coaching Fellow, Sport Performance/Paralympic Division, United States Olympic Committee, says Dupree has all the ingredients of a world champion.

“If Tucker chooses to take advantage of what the Olympic Training Center and the Residency Program offers athletes, he could really take his performance to the next level,” Denniston said. “He’s already one of the best Paralympic swimmers in the world, and he has a chance to be even better.”

In 2008, he won six Gold medals at the U.S. American Open Swimming Championships, and two Gold and four Silver medals at the Pan-American Games in 2007.
